(Dharma Address by the Abbot)
삼보에 귀의하오며,
Homage to the Triple Gem,
먼 타국에서 부처님의 가르침을 따르며 남국선사를 지켜 오신 불자 여러분, 안녕하세요. 남국선사(南國禪寺) 주지 홍산(弘山)입니다.
Dear Dharma friends who have upheld Namguk Seon Temple in a distant land while faithfully following the teachings of the Buddha, I greet you with deep respect. I am Hong-san, the newly appointed abbot of Namguk Seon-sa.
이처럼 귀한 도량에 제가 주지 소임을 맡게 된 것은 참으로 큰 은혜이자 인연입니다. 출가하여 부처님의 가피를 입고 수행자로 살아오며 언제나 마음속에 간직해 온 것은 ‘깨달음은 내 안에 있고, 중생 속에 있다’는 부처님의 가르침을 바탕으로 ‘내 모양을 보는 이나 내 이름을 듣는 이는 누구누구 할 것 없이 보리 마음 모두 내어 윤회의 고를 벗어 날 수 있도록’ 수행자의 길을 묵묵히 가겠다는 서원입니다.
It is truly a great blessing and karmic connection that I have been entrusted with this sacred responsibility in such a precious Dharma hall. Since leaving home and walking the path of practice under the Buddha’s compassionate guidance, I have always carried in my heart this vow: “Enlightenment is found within myself and within all beings. Whoever sees my form or hears my name—may they all give rise to the mind of awakening and be freed from the suffering of samsara.” With this aspiration, I have quietly walked the path of a practitioner.
이제 수행의 발걸음을 이곳 남국선사에서 이어가고자 합니다. 불법 만난 좋은 인연 여러분과 함께 길을 열어가고 싶은 마음입니다.
Now, I wish to continue my steps of practice here at Namguk Seon-sa, together with all of you who have formed this good Dharma connection.
남국선사는 이국 땅 한가운데서 선의 맑은 숨결을 이어가는 귀한 수행처이며, 동시에 교민과 현지인 모두에게 열려 있는 자비의 도량입니다. 앞으로 이 도량이 선 수행의 중심이 되고, 포교의 씨앗이 맺히는 정법도량, 그리고 다문화가 어우러지는 화합의 공간으로 더욱 성장할 수 있도록 우리 함께 마음과 정성을 다하면 좋겠습니다.
Namguk Seon Temple is a rare and precious place of practice, carrying the pure breath of Seon (Zen) in the midst of a foreign land. At the same time, it is a hall of compassion, open to both the Korean community and to local friends. In the years ahead, may this temple grow into a true Dharma center—where Seon meditation flourishes, where the seeds of the Dharma are sown, and where people of many cultures come together in harmony.
‘야야포불면(夜夜抱佛眠), 조조환공기(朝朝還共起)’와 같이 하루 24시간이 참나를 찾는 도(道)의 시간입니다.
As it is said: “Night after night, I sleep embracing the Buddha; morning after morning, I rise together with Him.” Every hour of the day and night is none other than the time of walking the Way, the time of seeking our true nature.
이 땅에서 살아가는 모든 이들의 마음속에도 부처님의 자비와 지혜가 깃들 수 있도록, 함께 참선하고, 함께 나누며, 함께 웃는 따뜻한 도량을 만들어가고자 합니다. 여러분 한 분 한 분의 기도와 신심, 따뜻한 격려가 이 도량을 살리고 가꾸는 힘이 됩니다.
Here, in this land, I hope we may create a warm and welcoming temple—where all beings can feel the Buddha’s compassion and wisdom alive in their own hearts; where we meditate together, share together, and smile together. Each person’s prayers, faith, and encouragement will be the very strength that nurtures and sustains this temple.
여러분의 가정과 일터마다 항상 부처님의 자비광명이 가득하기를 축원드립니다.
I sincerely wish that the light of the Buddha’s boundless compassion will always shine upon your families and your workplaces.
