The moon,
Obscured by a sixpence,
Becomes a mere coin.
The full moon vanishes, lost from sight.
Yet, remove the coin from your gaze, And there, in its full brilliance,
The bright round moon shines, seen by all—even the blind.
But what is the coin, and what is the moon?
Do not call the world’s desires and emotions the coin.
Do not name the true nature of humanity and the universal truth the moon.
To awaken to the inseparability of the mundane and the sacred,
One must hold both the worldly and the transcendent together.
Do you still distinguish with a worldly mind?
Or, do you discern without discrimination, holding only the transcendent?
Now, have you harmonized the two, discerning with a non-discriminating mind?
Only through the five hearts can one reach the awakened heart.
Who and what am I?
I do not know! I cannot know! Abandon and let go!

6 펜스에 가려
한 잎 동전 되니
둥근 달, 간 곳 없이 사라졌네.
눈 가린 6 펜스 치우니
밝고 둥근 달 그대로 드러나서
맹인도 볼 수 있네.
동전은 무엇이고, 달은 무엇인가?
세간의 오욕칠정, 동전이라 하지 마세.
인간의 실상과 우주만법의 진리, 달이라고 말하지 마세.
밥제_세속제 와 법제_승의제를
함께 갖추어야
불이법을 깨달았다 하련만
아직 밥적으로 분별심만 내는가?
아니면 법적으로 무분별심만 내는가?
이젠 밥.법화평하여 무분별심으로 분별심을 내는가?
오심(五心)해야 오심(悟心)에 이른다네.

이 무엇고, 이 무엇고?

※ 오심(五心)은 하심(下心), 발심(發心), 신심(信心), 분심(憤心), 의심(疑心)이요,
오심(悟心)은 깨달은 마음이다.
The five hearts (五心) are humility, aspiration, faith, resolve, and doubt. The awakened heart (悟心) is the mind of enlightenment.
※ 눈 앞 가린 동전을 얼마만큼 비켜놓고 보는가에 따라서 자기가 보는 달의 크기가 달라지니 중생수기득이익(衆生隨器得利益)도리 여기에 있다.
The size of the moon one sees depends on how much one shifts the coin from their eyes. This is the essence of each being benefiting according to their capacity.
※ 눈 앞의 동전 미련없이 내려 놓으면서 달도 보고 동전도 볼 줄 아는 그 사람이 바로 밥.법화평지인( .法和平之人) 아닐까?
Isn’t the one who can see both the moon and the coin without attachment the one who has harmonized the worldly and the sacred?
