The conveniences of civilization
Change rapidly like magic,
Bewildering people's minds,
But our spiritual life must not be shaken by them.
The human desire to launch
Fragile rockets into the vast,
Boundless universe is conceivable in theory, but truly absurd.
It's like ants in a backyard launching a rocket
to settle and live on the grass in New York's Central Park,
An equally foolish notion.
How can someone who hasn't explored their own backyard
Dare to explore the vast universe?
Abandon futile desires
And immerse yourself in the quest for the true self.
How can someone who hasn't looked into their own mind
Possibly understand the mind of another?

문명의 이기는 요술처럼 급속히 바뀌면서
사람들의 정신을 현혹하고 있지만
우리의 정신적 삶까지 흔들려서는 안된다.
인간이
첨단이라 자칭하는 허술한 로켓을 쏘아 올려
광대무변한 우주에 정착해 보려는 욕망은
관념적으로는 생각할 수 있지만 참으로 허황하다.
마치
집 마당 개미들이 로켓을 쏘아 올려
뉴욕 센트럴파크 잔디에 안착해서 살아 보려는
어리석은 생각과도 같다.
자기 집 마당도
탐험해 보지 않은 사람이
감히 광활한 우주를 탐험하려 하는가?
헛된 욕망 버리고
참나 탐구에 몰입하세.
자기 마음도
들여다 보지 않은 사람이
어찌 남의 마음을 들여다 볼 수 있겠는가?
